Helping clubs become more sustainable

The Premier League Club Development Fund provides grants of up to £150,000 to help England Accredited clubs playing within the National League System (Steps 1 to 6) or Women’s Football Pyramid (Tiers 1 to 4). This Fund aims to bring local communities together by supporting eligible clubs to become more sustainable entities, both on and off the pitch.

Off the pitch

Grants up to £50,000

Funding of up to £50,000 will be provided to up to 100 England Accredited Clubs to help create new, or modernise existing facilities within their stadium. All works should focus on improving the financial sustainability of the club by developing better facilities (e.g. clubhouses), increasing the capacity of the stadium and/or increasing the amount of community usage of off-the-pitch facilities.

Clubs would be required to provide a minimum of 10% partnership funding towards the project. 

If successful, it is expected that most of the funding would be awarded to clubs to deliver these projects in Summer 2023, unless clubs have projects that are ready to be delivered immediately. 

On the pitch

Grants up to £150,000

Funding of up to £150,000 will be provided to up to 50 England Accredited Two and Three Star Clubs to install a FIFA Quality or FIFA Quality Pro 3G Pitch at their stadium. The new facility would allow for the club to not only improve its playing surface, but also to increase the amount of regular community usage possible on its pitch, in turn, increasing its financial sustainability. 

For clubs seeking to install a FIFA Quality 3G pitch, there may be an opportunity to apply to the Football Foundation for additional funding. This additional application will be dependent on the project, proposed programme of use and potential delivery outcomes. Please note that the Football Foundation does not currently fund FIFA Quality Pro 3G pitches, or hybrid pitches, due to the limited community usage that would be achieved.

If successful, funding would be awarded to clubs to deliver these projects in Summer 2023 or Summer 2024. The utilisation of the Football Foundation’s 3G Pitch Framework will be mandatory for any 3G projects. 

How many England Football Accredited Clubs are there?

704 of the 886 Clubs in the National League System during the 2021/22 season have either England One Star, Two Star or Three Star status.
